Akhnan ibn Nazzir is the shaman of the Bloody Hawk who hates Alanna and risks the tribe's safety in hopes of destroying her. At one point, he attempts to create a Gate of Idramm, a magical rune that could have devastating consequences for all those nearby. His own ambition, greed, and hatred kills him, when he tries to control the crystal sword that is too powerful for him. This sword eventually kills Ishak and, in a round-about way, Roger. Because Nazzir dies while attempting to combat Alanna, she must take his place as the shaman of the Bloody Hawk.
He only appears in The Woman Who Rides Like a Man.
