King Baird III of Tortall (pronounced BAYRd), mentioned briefly in Terrier, founded the Provost's Guard in 127 HE. His successor was most likely Jonathan I of House Conté, who was the first Conté king and the royal who elevated the Conté family to a royal house. It is likely that Baird III and Jonathan I were related, and a female member of Baird's family married into House Conté, passing the royal blood to the Conté family.
King Baird may be a common ancestor to the Conté bloodline in 400s HE, including the Trebond family and Alanna the Lioness's descendants—through Baird of Conté, the brother of King Roger III of Conté in the 200s HE.
