Barnesh is the current King of Maren, a large slaveholding country of the Eastern Lands. It is quite possible that he is a descendant of Norrin and Anj'la, the last rulers to use the Dominion Jewel to create peace and prosperity in their country.
In 438 HE, King Barnesh was hosting a tournament near Berat, the capital of Maren, that Alanna the Lioness considered attending[1].
In 457 HE, Lord Raoul of Goldenlake and Malorie's Peak told Lerant of Eldorne that King Barnesh was canceling the land grants of all his nobility, and that they would have to pay through the nose in order to get them back. This was to appease Lerant and his grandfather[2].
