Berna was one of Serenity's maids in Ladyshearth Lodgings. She was living in the room next to the one where Rebakah Cooper was sleeping while she and Clara Goodwin stayed in Port Caynn.
When Beka was feeding Slapper and the local pigeons on her windowsill one morning Berna complained, bringing the typical prejudices about sickness and dirt coming from the birds. Although Beka tried to explain to her that those prejudices weren't true, she still went to Serenity and thus eventually caused Beka to be forbidden to feed the pigeons in the house again. Berna also told the other maids working for Serenity that Beka was "cracked".[1]
She only appears as a minor character in Bloodhound.
