Caidlene fa Sarajane, nicknamed Caidy, is a young Namornese noblewoman who serves Berenene dor Ocmore, the Empress, as a lady-in-waiting.

Biography[]

Early life[]

As a member of a Namornese noble house, Caidy was instructed from a young age on how to be a lady, with the intentions of taking her to the Imperial Palace to be presented to the empress and the court. Since she is a woman, it is likely that she was heavily protected to avoid being kidnapped and forced into a marriage by someone who would use her connections for ill. As she is likely not the heir of Sarajane, she is in less danger of the custom than Sandrilene fa Toren.

Member of the Court[]

Caidy became a favorite of the empress upon her introduction to Court, and was made a lady-in-waiting–a high honor for a daughter of any noble house.

In 1043 KF, Empress Berenene directed Caidy and a few other young members of the imperial Court to befriend Sandrilene fa Toren, the Clehame of Landreg, and her entourage in order to convince them to stay. It was common knowledge that the empress wanted Sandry to remain in Namorn, and even more that she wanted Sandry to marry either Finlach fer Hurich or Jakuben fer Pennun.

She began a light flirtation with Briar Moss, the handsome foster-brother of the Clehame. When Sandry announced her need to see her lands in order to avoid staying with the imperial court, Berenene instructed Caidy, Rizuka fa Dalach, Jak, and Fin, to go with them to Landreg. Caidy and Briar's flirtation continued. Caidy was angered when she saw Briar become entranced by the empress, and informed him that she was not going to give him any more kisses and instead kiss Jak.

When the court moved back to the Imperial Palace in Dancruan, Caidy and Briar rekindled their flirtation. He was about to kiss her when a magical intrusion made him so surprised that he dropped her. She did not know that it was Sandry asking for aid in getting out of a trap laid by Fin. Caidy went back to the ballroom and flirted with every man in sight; the empress was amused and assumed that she and Briar had a fight.

Further information[]

She is a kinswoman of Ealaga fa Landreg. While that might not have been noteworthy at first, by the end of the book Ealaga is a countess and the wife of a very powerful nobleman. Caidy's connection to Ealaga is more valuable at that time.

Appearances[]

Caidy only appears in The Will of the Empress.
