Comas is a novice at Winding Circle. He's an ambient thread mage and Lark's current student in Magic Steps. He's portrayed as pathologically shy, and won't even speak to Sandry when she calls on Lark. Lark says he'll agree with nearly anything he's told to do, and that's why he became a novice. Sandry offers him her old bedroom, through Lark. In The Will of the Empress he is even more shy and reclusive, having taken over the attic of Discipline to himself.

Magic Steps
Set in Summersea, the capital of Emelan (1039 KF). Protagonists search for perpetrators of gruesome serial killings.
