Cypress has magical properties in the Emelanese Universe. It is used in protective spells. When burned as an incense cypress is for death.[1]
Frostpine uses a mixture of rosemary, rose geranium and cypress oils steeped in protective spells to reinforce the giant chain protecting Summersea's harbor when pirates attack in 1035.[2]
Briar uses the same mixture to create protective circles, able to withstand five mages trying to break it at once.[3]
