Dunevon Rittevon (pronounced duhn-EHV-uhn RIHT-ehv-on) was King of the Copper Isles from 462 HE to his birthday in 463. King Dunevon was the youngest son of the late King Oron and his third wife. He succeeded his elder half-brother King Hazarin, in 462, when he was four or five years old, and was assassinated a year later on his birthday by his elder half-sister Princess Imajane and her husband Rubinyan Jimajen, both of whom were head members of his regency council.
Dunevon was born during King Oron's third marriage, in late spring or early summer of 458 HE. He had many siblings, but by the time he inherited the throne, most of them had died. He was raised luxuriously, with many toys. When his father died, his elder half-brother, Prince Hazarin ascended the throne. Hazarin named Dunevon as his heir, with Princess Imajane and Rubinyan Jimajen as the regency council if Dunevon succeeded before coming of age. Hazarin knew that he had signed his death warrant with that, knowing that his sister would do anything to gain power. Dunevon became King when Hazarin died of an apoplexy in 462 HE.
Because he was quite young, the regency council was put into place. The regents were his elder half-sister Princess Imajane Rittevon Jimajen, and Rubinyan Jimajen, her husband. He did not like being King, and preferred only to play.
Bronau Jimajen, whom he referred to as "Uncle Bronau", tried to kidnap him once he had become King, in order to gain more power. Dunevon would've gone with him had Bronau been more understanding, but the boy had smelled a rat after awhile. Prince Bronau escaped, but the regents did not pardon the Balitang family of their exile, knowing that Prince Bronau would probably go to them.
Return of the Balitangs
Dunevon was present for the arrival of the Balitang family after their exile at Tanair. He was particularly bored, and most eyes were on the regents, his half-sister and brother-in-law, rather than him. His Captain of the King's Guard, Taybur Sibigat was like a father figure to him, as he knew the regents didn't care for Dunevon.
Duke Elsren Balitang joined the King's court, that was made up of high-born young boys. As Dunevon's heir presumptive, Elsren was an integral member of the King's court. Princess Imajane tried to push Duchess Winnamine into allowing her stepdaughter and son to stay at the Grey Palace, as ornaments of the court. Winnamine defied her with the help of other very powerful and wealthy luarin noble families. Instead, Elsren was forced to travel each day to the palace to join the King and the other boys.
As the regents noticed that Saraiyu Balitang, a half-raka noblewoman was getting a lot of attention in Rajmuat, they decided to bring her to heel by offering her a marriage between her and Dunevon. This caused Sarai to run away and elope with the Carthaki mage, Zaimid Hetnim, a guest of the court.
On his birthday in 463 HE, the regents bestowed a ship, called the Rittevon, upon their younger brother. Taybur Sibigat went with him as guard, along with the best seamen of the lands, and the boys of Dunevon's court. A freak storm hit right after that, killing Dunevon, Elsren, and every other boy except one of the Uniunu boys. This caused Taybur Sibigat to turn coat, as he realized that it was set up. The storm that hit was caused by luarin mages and destroyed the Rittevon with the first large wave.
He was luarin with brown hair. He didn't take comfortably to being called king, but was dressed in the finest clothing.
Personality and traits
Dunevon did not want to be king, and he was bored at all the functions he had to attend. He was portrayed at being somewhat of a brat. He hit other boys when he was upset, and was sometimes mean. He got out of a lot of things due to his rank and Taybur Sibigat. He was emotionally neglected by his parents and his siblings, so his only father figure was Sibigat, who came into his life quite late.
