The Emerald Ocean is a vast body of water in the Tortallan Universe.

Geography

The ocean lies to the west of the Eastern Lands; Tortall, Scanra, and Carthak all have considerable coastline on the Emerald Ocean. There are lands on the west of the Emerald Ocean beyond Jindazhen[1]. The Copper Isles and the Yamani Islands, two archipelagic nations, are located on the Emerald Ocean.

Marine life

The ocean has fish, whales, and other marine life[2] There are also krakens, monstrous sea beasts that target ships. Due to the reopening of the Divine Realms, there are also merfolk and other mythical sea-dwelling creatures.

Legends

Oinomi Wavewalker is the great god[3] of the Emerald Ocean, and it is one of her territorial designations. People believe she likes bright colors and shiny things, so humans who live near the ocean—like in Port Caynn in the 3rd century—will paint their dwellings bright colors to please her.
