Biography
Edit
Ersken is born in 229 HE and has older sisters.[1]. He is the fourth son of a middle-class family in Corus.[2]
He enters his first year of street duty in the Provost's Guard as a Puppy on April 1, 246 HE.[3] Ersken's training partners seem to be good at their work, as they have been commended by Lord Gershom twice before April of 246 HE.[4] His first night on duty doesn't go that well as he "went full-front in the gutter"[5]. A month after he begins his year as a puppy and only three weeks after he first meets Koramin Ingensra they become lovers[6]. Shortly afterwards one of his fellow Puppies, Verene, dies on duty. She has also been one of his friends and the other Puppies vote on him speaking at her funeral for all of them.[7]
When Ersken becomes a full member of the Provost's Guard, the first partner he is assigned to doesn't fit, although the reasons for this aren't known. His second partner is Birch and Ersken seems to get along quite nicely with him.[8] Their usual patrol route includes Rovers Street[9] and by September of 247 HE Ersken has already established a reputation that he is not to cross with the gamblers in the Barrel's Bottom.
Ersken was one of the guards caught up in the Bread Riot on September 8, 247 HE. He even got a black eye to show for it.[10]
Physical description
Edit
Ersken has blue eyes and "soft brown curls".[11] By September of 247 HE Ersken has put on some muscles[12].
Personality and traits
Edit
Ersken is "the kindest of us [Trainee Guards of 246]"[3], which makes him help Beka a lot and even stick up to her when others make jokes on her behalf. Beka fears that this soft side of his will make his work as a Dog difficult, but he proves that he can be tough, too, when he even frightens some members of the Court of the Rogue into leaving a tavern with his all too innocent looks only five months after he became a full-fledged Dog.[13]
As opposed to Beka Ersken doesn't show any shyness. He even handles Beka's shyness by ignoring it and he hasn't got a problem with hugging his female year-mates, either.[11] However it seems as though he wasn't quite adept at handling a woman flirting with him.[14]
Relationships
Edit
Koramin Ingensra
Edit
Ersken and Kora became physically involved with each other shortly after meeting for the first time in April of 246 HE. They've maintained a romantical relationship ever since. Although they stand on different sides of the law with Ersken being a Dog and Kora Rosto's left hand, they still manage to continue their relationship by not talking overly much over those things but instead having many mutual friends, reading books, going to fairs and musical entertainments.[15]
