Flamewing is a (relatively) young dragon that Daine encounters during Wild Magic. Flamewing is transported against her will into Tortall during a siege, and attacks the Tortallan forces in rage. She is pregnant and feels that her fetus has died in the transportation.

Daine's wild magic, however, heals the dragon fetus within her, and she is able to give birth safely to her daughter, Skysong. However, she soon returns to the battle to help fight against the invaders and is killed. Her last action is to charge Daine to find and care for the newborn baby.
