Dedicate Gorse is in charge of the kitchens in Winding Circle temple in Summersea, Emelan. Although he can be quite strict and knows always who is in his kitchen he is also famous for his habit of giving visitors extra treats,[1] which makes Briar like him very much. He is not only a good cook and dedicate but also an initiate and thus able to use magic,[2] which he uses amongst other to expel troublemakers from his kitchens. Besides being friendly and giving Briar a treat now and then Gorse can also get quite stern when he is provoked. One thing he doesn't stand is when anyone is accused of illegal doings like stealing without proof.[3]

His physical appearance and hairstyle make it obvious that the dedicate was formerly a citizen of Yanjing before he left his homeland and dedicated himself to the gods of the Living Circle. It is unknown to which of the four temples he belongs, because his robes are always too stained to recognize the colour. Trisana Chandler even thinks that he might belong to all four temples as the kitchen combines all elements.[3]

Dedicate Gorse was a stocky, big-bellied man of five feet ten inches (5'10"). He had black hair he wore in a ponytail clubbed forward and a thick, trimmed beard. His black almond shaped eyes were those of a far eastener. Gorse had a brown complexion. His face is broad with a long, flared nose and a wide mouth. He had a thick accent, but spoke precisely.[3]
