Help:Accents
Talk0this wiki
Accents are characters with diacritics, such as in Conté or Yazmín.
Wiki Policy
Edit
TPW policy on names with accents is to create the articles in the proper names, and redirect to them from the unaccented names for ease of search. Sorting keys in categorizing are used without accents, since special characters are indexed after regular ones.
How to create accents
Edit
In word processors
Edit
On a Mac, accented characters can be created by typing ⌥+e or ⌥+` before a vowel, producing the acute (´) and grave (`) accents, respectively.
On Microsoft Word in Windows, accented characters can be created using alt codes: an acute vowel is preceded by CTRL + ' (apostrophe) and a grave vowel is preceded by CTRL + ` (backwards apostrophe, left of the 1 key).
In HTML
Edit
In HTML, which works in wiki documents, special characters have special codes:
| Code | Character | Code | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| á | á | à | à |
| é | é | è | è |
| í | í | ì | ì |
| ó | ó | ò | ò |
| ú | ú | ù | ù |
