Hoshi is the mare given to Keladry of Mindelan by her knight-master Raoul of Goldenlake and Malorie's Peak, when Kel became his squire^[1]. The mare serves as Kel's remount and her horse for fast riding, while Peachblossom, the horse Kel has been riding since she became a page, is her warhorse for use in fighting.

Hoshi is a brown mare with feathery white socks and a white star on her forehead. Her mane and tail are black.^[2] It was Kel who named the mare "Hoshi", which means "star" in Yamani and refers to the white star on her forehead.^[1]
