The Dihanur family (pronounced DEE-hah-noor) is a powerful merchant clan in the Emelanese Universe.

Family history

Before 1039 KF, a bitter blood feud with House Rokat, another merchant clan, broke out. This occurred because one of the Rokats brutally murdered Palaq Dihanur, the patriarch of their clan, after he went back on his word about a marital alliance. Palaq's head was severed from his body and crudely displayed atop of a fountain.

For revenge, the remaining Dihanurs (the clan was quite large) sent two of their members to wipe out the entire Rokat family. Nurhar Dihanur and his wife Alzena used the power of an unmage slave in order to reach their goal. They succeeded in killing all Rokats in Bihan and Janaal before turning to Emelan. They almost finished their mission in Summersea before being captured and killed by Sandrilene fa Toren.

Trade

The Dihanur family is quite large and powerful and has hegemony of trade in many countries surrounding the Pebbled Sea and beyond, including Janaal and Bihan. The latter was won after wiping out the Rokats there. They employ trade practices that are banned in Emelan by Vedris fer Toren.

Known family members

The family is still extant because, although Nurhar and Alzena are dead, they were not the only living members. The family is still strong and powerful in other countries.

Real world connections

The Dihanur and Rokat blood feud calls to mind the extreme violence and crudeness of the display of corpses that Florentine nobles displayed in their feuds.
