Merric of Hollyrose is one of Keladry of Mindelan's yearmates in her training for knighthood. As a knight he serves in the Scanran War along with Kel.

Biography

Training for knighthoodEdit
His sponsor is Faleron of King's Reach, who he is related to. Merric is one of the boys harassed by Joren of Stone Mountain and his friends. For one they make him pick up books that they drop on purpose. Kel stands up for him and gets into a fight with the bullies. First Merric isn't happy with Kel for it as he is ashamed of being helped by anyone, let alone a girl. Later he joins their study group in Nealan of Queenscove's room and after some time Merric even becomes Kel's friend.
When the pages are on their summer camp in Merric's third year they stumble into a bandit camp. Faleron, who was leading the younger pages, froze and let Kel take control. Merric followed her without question and took an arrow to the shoulder, which Neal didn't have the training to heal. Merric defended Kel when the trainingmaster asked if she was ready to leave page training, after seeing blood.
KnighthoodEdit
Merric passes his Ordeal of Knighthood on midwinter of 460 HE[2]. The following spring he is sent to the northern border of Tortall to fight in the Scanran War. There he is assigned to the refugee camp Kel dubs Haven, where he serves together with Kel, who is the commander of the camp, and Neal. Merric is responsible for the security outside of the camp, organising patrols.
When Kel goes to rescue the captured refugees of Haven, Merric joins some of their year mates as they follow Kel, despite being wounded.
Physical descriptionEdit
He is described as having red, straight hair and pale blue eyes with a long, broad nose.
