Moonlight was Alanna of Trebond's first horse, a mare, bred by the Bazhir^[1]. She was gold colored, with a white mane and tail^[2]. Alanna bought her from George Cooper in autumn of her second year as a page^[3], 431 HE^[4], at the same time as Jonathan bought Darkness. George sold her the mare for much less than her real price, making Alanna only pay ten gold nobles for the horse and tack. Jonathan insisted upon paying the rest with a sapphire ring behind Alanna's back. Moonlight was trained as a warhorse.

She was the granddam of Darkmoon. Alanna rode her throughout the whole Song of the Lioness quartet.
