Moonstream is the Dedicate Superior of Winding Circle. A water dedicate and a healer[1], she treated Rosethorn when she was ill with the Blue pox. Niko once gave Tris a tea with strengthening properties made by Moonstream, which cleared her head and warmed her chilled body. The tea tasted of dates, citron and plums and Moonstreams magic was so strong in it, that Tris even felt it in her veins.[2]
She has an affair with Niklaren Goldeye, which was supposed to be mentioned in Tris's Book but was cut because it would have made the book too long.[3] However, there is a small hint in the novel when Moonstream visits at Discipline cottage and kisses Niko on the cheek. This shows some affection of hers towards Niko, although it could also be interpreted as friendship without knowing of their relationship.[4]
Moonstream is dark-skinned and has brown eyes. Moonstream wears the blue robe of a water dedicate trimmed in gold[5] to show her status at the head of the temple. Her voice is described as being clear and kind, when she worries for one of her charges, but it can be equally dry and emotionless.[6]
