Nobility
Talk0this wiki
Nobles are the upper social class of Tortall as well as other feudal countries. They are land owners and in charge of taking care of the commoners who live on their lands. They are the only ones allowed to become knights or - specifically in Tortall - enter the Queen's Ladies. Nobles are usually known by their fief.
Ranks
Edit
Within the noble class, further distinction is possible by rank. Also, older families are considered to valued higher within their rank than younger ones. A familie's age can be learned from the Books of Nobility.
Royalty includes the King and Queen or Emperor and Empress of a country as well as possible princes and princesses. Those monarchs form the highest social rank. Non-royal nobles usually hold fiefs and a title to go with it. Those titles known in Tortall are Duke and Duchess, Count and Countess or Lord and Lady, and Baron and Baroness.
Code of conduct
Edit
Nobles are expected to behave honorably and be "better" than commoners. Customarily a son of each family becomes a knight. There are certain duties that one noble owes another and they were not supposed to fight with their hands.[1]
