Dedicate Osprey is the apprentice of Dedicate Crane. As of Healing in the Vine (or Briar's Book) she had been studying under Crane for five years. She works in his greenhouses. During the blue pox epidemic, she shows Briar around Crane's greenhouse and helps him. She also led the betting ring regarding how long assistants would stay in the inner workroom.

Osprey is described as a "full figured young woman" with "curly black hair" and eyes "a darker shade of green than Briar's own". Her demeanor is quite cheerful and also thorough. Crane describes her as having an aptitude for epidemic work, while Rosethorn states that Osprey is "sharp enough." Osprey admires Crane, although she is highly aware of his faults. She is wary of Rosethorn however, which is a discussion point for Osprey and Briar throughout the key-finding process.

It is not known whether Osprey has magic.
