Otho Urtiz (b. 194 HE[1]) is an inhabitant of the Lower City of Corus living on Lambert Street between Daymarket and Nipcopper Close[2] near Rebakah Cooper's lodgings.[3] He works as a minstrel at Naxen's Fancy and other fine eating houses. That's why he keeps late hours.[2] Otho has a musical voice and plays the harp. He practices his skills in the early morning, even though he keeps later hours.[1]

Urtiz is five feet five inches (5'5") tall and has long black hair and a short-cropped beard of the same colour. His green-hazel eyes are as sharp as a veteran Dog's.[1]

He was one of Garnett's customers paying the baker with false coins. Urtiz' name is on the list Garnett gives to Beka and Tunstall when they come to him inquiring about the fake coins. Later that day Beka visits Otho to ask him about the matter, where she is attacked by Ashmari, Otho's slave. Urtiz only barely manages to convince Ashmari to let Beka go. Afterwards he even begs and tries to bribe Beka to make her let Ashmari go. Urtiz even told her that he would free Ashmari so she needn't go back to the mines.[4]

He then tells Beka that he got his coles by gambling. He was betting on horse races on the Common because he has an eye for horseflesh and obviously a better one than the other better, Hansevor Remy[5] from Port Caynn. Otho won twelve silver nobles from Hanse and another man. He learned about the coles when he went shopping for bread at Garnett's on his way home. That's when he decided to go to the slave markets and buy Ashmari, thus getting rid of the false money and saving the woman.[1]

He only appears as a minor character at the beginning of Bloodhound.
