Piers of Mindelan (pronounced peers of MIHN-duh-lahn) was the father of Keladry of Mindelan, with nine children in total. He was a Tortallan diplomat to the Yamani Isles and was described to approach things in a diplomatic manner. His family, although being lesser nobility, became important in Tortall thorugh Piers' achievements in the Yamani Isles, securing a peace contract between both countries. Piers had also written a book about Yamani customs which was later used to teach the pages and prepare them for the Grand Progress.
Piers shared Kel's hazel eyes and like her he had brown hair, although his was darker. Also like his daughter he had a delicate nose. Piers was a small, stocky man; only five feet four inches tall. He was shorter than his wife, Ilane of Mindelan. His daughter Kel had grown to be taller than him while she was still a page.
