Rizuka fa Dalach, or Rizu is a Namornese noblewoman and one of the Empress's favorites. She is Mistress of the Imperial Wardrobe - and has the honor of designing liveries for servants and dressing the empress, and holds the title of bidisa, or "baroness".
She is described by Daja Kisubo to be incredibly beautiful, with a full figure, long curling hair, and long lashes. She is good friends with Caidlene fa Sarajane. It is also implied that she has a bit of a crush on Berenene. She has a good sense of humor.
In 1043 KF at the Imperial Palace, Bidisa Rizu meets Daja, Sandry, Briar, and Tris when presenting the empress with a magically poisoned cloth that was a gift from the Yanjingyi emperor. At this time, Ishabal Ladyhammer had already informed the empress of its danger, and Rizu was well aware of it, but the empress wished to test her cousin as a threadmage and a politician. Later on that day, Rizu showed great interest in Daja's living metal hand and asked for the entire story.
When Sandry chooses to go to Clehamat Landreg to tour her lands, the empress sends Rizu, Caidy, Finlach fer Hurich, and Jakuben fer Pennun with her. She mostly rides with Daja, but she's quick to joke with her old Namornese and new Emelanese friends. At the clehamat after a kidnap attempt was made on Sandry, Rizu shows great compassion when she overhears Briar, Tris, and Daja talking about Sandry's strong will.
Throughout this time, Rizu and Daja are shown to be engaging in small flirtations. However, it is so subtle that one might not even call it flirtation.
Back in Dancruan, at a ball, Rizu kisses Daja, surprising the other woman. Then, Daja kisses back and they have an affair. Later, Briar discovers them when asking to get a bit of wire from Daja. He realizes why the noblewoman didn't seem to be interested in him or any man.
When Sandry decides to leave Namorn for good, Daja asks Rizu to come back with her. Rizu refuses, as the empress has given her so much, and that she owes a lot to the ruler. She asks Daja if she would stay here, pointing out that there are many women of Namorn who are not preyed upon, such as herself, Caidy, and the women in the empress's care. Daja chooses her foster-siblings, although it hurts her immensely, and puts her into a rage. This is the last we see of Rizu.
She only appears in The Will of the Empress.
