Sakuyo was a god in the Tortallan Universe pantheon. He was worshipped primarily in the Yamani Islands and perhaps more places, but under a different alias.

Influence

Territorial designations

Sakuyo was a trickster god, but ruled over benevolent jokes and pranks. This made him less dangerous than other trickster gods such as Kyprioth or the Graveyard Hag, as Kyprioth's trickster antics sometimes led people to be killed or entire nations to suffer.

Worship

There was no known priesthood for Sakuyo, but each year at festival held in his name, people would traditionally play tricks on one another. If someone got angry at the trick being played on them, the other person would say "Sakuyo laughs". Keladry of Mindelan explained this to Domitan of Masbolle when he first suggested she put griffin feathers over her eyes to see through illusions at the Battle of Forgotten Well, thinking it was a trick to make her look silly.

Appearances

Sakuyo never appeared in any of the books, but was mentioned twice by Kel, once while fighting in the north, and once when she believed that Sakuyo had danced in the bowl used by Queen Thayet when she picked out the order for the Chamber of the Ordeal the year Kel took her Ordeal.
