The Scanran War was waged between Tortall and Scanra in the early 460s HE.

King of Scanra in that time is Maggur Rathhausak. The mage Blayce the Gallan is vital to his strategy as he creates killing machines, which do considerable damage to the Tortallan forces, powered by the souls of children.

The Tortallan King in that time is Jonathan IV of Conté. One of the Knights fighting on the side of Tortall is Keladry of Mindelan, who kills Blayce the Gallan, thus giving the Tortallan forces an even change.

But even after Blayce's death the war continued for the next two years in various smaller fights--the hill country wasn't the best terrain for real battles--and didn't end until spring of 464 HE.^[1]
