The market square of Emelan's capital Summersea is situated in the center of the city. Market is held there regularly and people from the surroundings swarm into the city to buy and sell goods. Winding Circle Temple has its own booth there which is tended by the residents of Discipline cottage—Dedicates Lark and Rosethorn and their charges—once a month and most probably by other dedicates the remaining time. All sorts of things are traded at the market, among them used books, herbs, different goods made of copper, implements for working thread, e. g. drop spindles, and sweets[1].

The square has its own fountain. It is bordered by several buildings, among them Summersea Guildhall, whose clock sets the time for the vendors and which is decorated with statues of different craftsmen, Provost's Hall and Trader's Hall.[2] The Guildhall clocktower can be seen in the whole city, even on the other side of the city wall, in the streets of the Mire.[3]
