Tano (pronounced TAH-noe) was the head of the banjiku slaves in the Imperial Palace of Carthak. He was the trainer of the cheetah Chirp. His close bond with Chirp and the fact that he could see the godhood in Daine suggest that he has wild magic. Both performed along with other banjiku and their animals in front of the imperial court and the Tortallan guests when Veralidaine Sarrasri was there. Tano once mentioned to Daine that she had to be a goddess or at least half-goddess. Later, when Daine was locked up by Ozorne, Tano showed her a way through the service tunnels under the palace.

He only appears in Emperor Mage.
