Tyra (pronounced TEER-ah) is a country in the Tortallan Universe.

Geography

Location and political borders

Tyra is located on the Great Inland Sea, which makes up their southern border. Across the sea to the south lies the empire of Carthak. To the east lies Maren and Sarain, to the northwest lies Galla and Tusaine, and to the west lies Tortall.

The capital, also called Tyra, is situated on the estuary of the Drell River[1].

Climate

Tyra is made of mostly swampland, which doesn't allow for much agriculture.

Politics

Government

Tyra is a republic run on banking and merchants[2]. Needless to say it is a mercantile society.

Economic relations

As Tyra relies mostly on trade and mercantilism as a source of income, it has trade relations with many countries, including those on the Emerald Ocean. In 463 HE, when it was revealed that Imajane Rittevon and Rubinyan Jimajen had assassinated King Dunevon, a boy-king, Tortall and Maren withdrew their trade from the Copper Isles, but Tyra did not, as it is known as being less concerned with where they get their money[3].

Espionage

Like many countries, Tyra has agents in every country near them. Taybur Sibigat believes that Tyran agents have very slipper personalities, and thinks it comes from living in a swamp.
