Yazmín Hebet is a retired dancer who was considered to be the most famous dancer in the countries surrounding the Pebbled Sea and further than that. She lives in Summersea, the capital of Emelan, where she runs a school on Festival Street.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Yazmín probably started dancing at a very young age, and became very talented. She has danced all over the land, for eight kings and seven queens in Aliput, and the Yanjingyi Emperor. She danced for the emperor for a whole year, and he paid her well and gave her a gown made of pearls. She knew Dedicate Lark, as they were both performers before Lark contracted asthma and was forced out of work. She retired by 1039 and opened a dancing school on Festival Street in Summersea.

The Events of 1039[]

In 1039 KF, Lark brought her old friend Yazmín to see Lady Sandrilene, as Sandry had just discovered Pasco Acalon's dance magic and was wondering how she would teach him. Hebet was fascinated by the idea of a dance-mage, as she had seen mages work magic through dance in other countries, but they also could work other kinds of magic in different ways. She offered her teaching expertise to Lady Sandry, and the young thread-mage accepted gladly.

When Sandry first brought Pasco to study with Hebet, he was properly awed at the idea of learning dance from the famed dancer. This awe turned to dismay when he discovered that Hebet is a hard teacher, and pushed him to stretch and "turns him to jelly". He called her the "little monster" because of her unyielding way of teaching dance.

When Sandry cooked up a plot to trap the mass murderers Nurhar Dihanur, his wife Alzena, and the unmage, she included Pasco, intending to use the same dance that lured the fish into his friend's net when she first discovered him. Sandry urged them both to take this seriously, since Pasco will be sucked into the unmagic net if he so much as brushes it. Hebet pretended to think of this as a game in front of Pasco, but when talking one on one with Sandry, it is clear that she understood the gravity of the situation.

Duke Vedris[]

Throughout the book, Hebet is shown to share flirtations with Sandry's great-uncle, Duke Vedris. Sandry hopes that a romance will start, as it will take her uncle's mind off of serious things and maybe keep away another heart attack.

In 1043 KF, there is a hint that the duke and Yazmín are lovers.

Physical Description[]

Yazmím is a thin, small woman, who is very graceful due to her years of dancing.
